Instant-G lurches into the computer age!

Today we got our new Hunter A111 alignment machine.

We had just done an alignment on a 944turbo Cup Car.

Note the 1958 vintage Alimite guages.  They work great, are indestructo, but are a bit cumbersome.

As an aside, noteice the 924 style hood prop on this cup car.

Now for the Vintage 1986 Hunter digial aligment unit

We set up all four heads on the car and "compensate" them out witht he car in the air. The wheels are rotated
while the heads swivel.  This compensates for wheel runout.

These will handle up to 17" wheels.  Wheel shown is a 16"

The units are connected by elasitc strings.  The strings calculate angles between the units and this data is used for toe and caster adjustment.

Now we enter the desired aligment settings in the machine.

On top of the unit there is a remote control box on a 30' cord.  It controls all functions of
the machine remotely and has an LED readout of the selected setting as a deviation from
the desired setting.

Here's the whole setup.  We have the car set up on the lifting tables, with the turn plates, then the scale pads on top of that.
We can pop off the alignment heads and go directly to eright balance.  This way the rear scales "float" on the turn plates.

Interestingly (and surprisingly) the settings were spot on to within the resolution of the machine (0.05 degrees camber, 0.01" toe)
The maximum resolition of the old optical equipment was about 1/32 in toe.
